What a Roots session looks like

Players are grouped by age and ability, so children train and compete with players at their own level rather than simply their own age. Sessions are built around individual technical work - every player has a ball at their feet for most of the session - before progressing into small-sided games and, as players mature, full 11-a-side. The objective is permanent improvement in a player's technical, physical, psychological and tactical game. Results follow; they aren't the goal.

Who coaches in Bangalore

Roots has more than 30 licensed coaches across the club, including AFC A-Licence holders who have played professionally for clubs such as Dempo, Churchill Brothers, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting, and coaches who have led Karnataka state teams. Behind them sits a support team most academies don't have: physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, video analyst, sports psychologist and dietician.

From a Bangalore grassroots session to the Karnataka Super Division

Roots isn't only an academy. The club fields elite youth teams in the AIFF and KSFA youth leagues, a senior men's side in the Karnataka Super Division and the BDFA A-Division, and a women's team that has competed in the Karnataka Women's League and qualified for IWL 2. More than 50 Roots trainees have gone on to play in the ISL, the I-League and for national and state teams. It means a child starting at Indiranagar or Jayanagar at five can stay inside one system all the way to a professional contract.

What age can my child start football coaching in Bangalore?
Most Roots centres take players from 4.5 years. Upper age limits vary by centre - Jayamahal goes to 16, Cox Town and Jayanagar to 15 - and players who progress can move into the elite youth and senior setup.

Do you run weekday or weekend batches?
Both, depending on the centre. Cox Town, Jayamahal and Koramangala (Golden Leg) run weekday and weekend batches; Indiranagar, Bellandur, Hennur, Nagavara-Hebbal and Koramangala (Coolulu) are weekend; Jayanagar and Mathikere are weekday.

Is there a trial class before joining?
Yes. Every Roots player starts with a free trial session - come along, train with the group and see whether it suits your child before committing.

Do you coach girls?
Yes. Girls train in the grassroots programme alongside boys, and Roots runs dedicated girls' age-group squads competing in the AIFF and KSFA U15 and U17 Women's Youth Leagues, plus a senior women's side.
